Mr. Sanders is entering his 2nd year as the Assistant Director of Bands at East Jackson High School in Commerce, GA. A graduate of Jacksonville State University's David L. Walters School of Music, Mr. Sanders has a robust background in both music performance and education. An alumnus of Jackson County High School, Mr. Sanders was actively involved in their nationally acclaimed band program throughout his four years there. At Jacksonville State University, he distinguished himself as a tuba player in the David L. Walters Chamber Winds and Wind Ensemble. Additionally, he was a member of the Marching Southerners, a Sudler Trophy Recipient ensemble, where he played the prestigious “20J” tuba and served for two years on the leadership team as treasurer and historian. Mr. Sanders also contributed to JSU’s pep band, Hardcorps, serving as section leader for one year during his four-year tenure. His performance experience is further complemented by his time with the Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps.
Mr. Sanders studied tuba under Mr. Chris Hosmer and brass pedagogy with Dr. Casey Thomas at JSU. He also received conducting instruction from Dr. Ken Bodiford, Dr. Jeremy Stovall, and Dr. Jeremy Benson. His professional affiliations include the Georgia Music Educators Association, the National Band Association, and the National Association for Music Education.
Before joining East Jackson High School, Mr. Sanders served as the Brass Coordinator for the Jefferson Dragon Marching Regiment for four years and the Jackson County Marching Band for two years. He also had the honor of being the choir director for Legacy Knoll Middle School during its inaugural year in 2023-24. Mr. Sanders is excited to continue building the Pride of the East Side and advancing the band's excellence.
